They were warned by so many, "Stay in the light, stay on the path", and yet those young boys found themselves in the dark of the forests, with only the swamp mist to keep them company. A chill filled the air, the mist seemingly spiralling around them, as though they were the eye of some tragic storm.. The boys turned quickly, a piercing scream echoing from the mist, blood pouring from their naive young ears. Origins Like most dark creatures out there in the world, the Banshee was a bastard creation by the Goddess of Life and the God of Darkness and Shadows. The Shade forced Theia to create many dark and unspeakable beasts, and the Banshee was one of his many requests. A beast that's very scream could tear souls from a mortal coil, a beast hidden in a mist that always follows, so none might gaze upon its true form. Legends of the Banshee spread all throughout Drikafeer and the Vendaven Riverlands. A Herald of Death, they called it, for when it screamed you knew that your death was near. All who witnessed a Banshee's scream never lived to tell the tale, but if they did live, they knew true terror, true darkness, in the silence she left them with. Physical Appearance Despite popular belief Banshee's do not walk on mortal legs, but hover softly over a mist that follows their body. If they stood on legs they would be around 8ft Tall, with the typical body of an elven woman, beautiful, desired, and yet never to be theres. They adorn themselves in dark, long, flowing cloaks, which hide the monster beneath. Below their hoods frail and greying hair can be seen, however blacks are not uncommon. But aside from that, below their hood there is only a dark shadow. However when a Banshee screams, a large, pale, jaw hangs from their hood, the blackness of their open mouth staring emptily into the world. Those who have been lucky enough to slay a Banshee have removed the hood and cloak, stating that the creature below has a set of black, soulless eyes, with skin pale and cracked, with purple coarse veins drooping from their eyes, outlining their flesh. Diet In the land of the Vale its quite ironic that a creature as dark and twisted as the Banshee would not even dare touch the flesh of any being, or even eat at all. Its odd, considering we have an assortment of beautiful abominations who enjoy ripping the veins from little, pale, wrists. But.. I must confess, there is one thing the Banshee does enjoy eating. Its almost addictive to the creature, and they can barely live without it. Souls. They tear them from their victims once they have rendered them, incapable with their screams or their magic. And once their victims can no longer fight, they drain their souls, stopping them from ever finding peace in the Silver Shores. Location The Banshee is normally found in Swamp Regions, or dark forests where few do dwell. However it is not uncommon for a Banshee to dwell not far from a city, filled with souls their screams can grant them. So who knows where the Banshee might end up. Your lakes, your swamps, your homes.. BehaviourThe Banshee itself is far from passive, always holding a motive close to its empty cavity where a heart might be. When they first stumble upon their victims, they will simply send a mist before them, obscuring their vision. They enjoy the hunt, you see. They take pleasure in making their victims feel fear, confusion.. They then shriek, louder than any other creature could ever hope too. Their screams can be deafening, if done right. Once they have screamed, they will stop at nothing to take their victims soul. They will use magic, forbidden arts lost to the mortals of the Vale. They will use their mist, they will use their scream. They never relent. They demoralise their victims to the point where they are practically begging for release from the damning coil of a mortal form. The reason this creature relates to the Magic Theme is simply because of what they are. They are creatures of extreme magical power, using mist to shroud themselves from view and a blood curdling scream to drain their prey of their souls. A deliciously dark creature.
