When I coward behind that screen, I become him: Someone confident, strong, and kind. A being that possesses skills that would shame any challenger, but a heart which beats so strong, people would not fear him. He leads his side to victory, but he is not a warrior. Every piece of him is me, pretending to be someone I am not. His eyes sparkle with the color of emeralds. It represents his uniqueness and beauty. Even if he falls short of society’s standard for beauty, he is confident. His uniqueness sets him apart and shows how being different is positive, and nothing, not skin, size, or love, can stop you from being beautiful, no matter what. The color of his shirt, in all honesty, may just be me leaking through, since it is my favorite color. However, it reflects his appreciation of nature, love of art, and his zen personality. His signature green shirt represents health and healing, which shows his faithfulness and trust. Two images appear on him: One on his front, the other, his back. The weapon on the front is the battles he has fought, and not just those in combat. It shows the pain he has been through, and that no matter what, no matter how strong or confident you are, nothing can shield you from life’s battles. The sword is not the most expensive or top tier, however he’s managed to make it even without all the expensive stuff life offers. In contrast to the sword, he wears a tool on his back. This hoe has been crafted with finer materials compared to the sword. It shows that working hard and doing the boring, repetitive work gets less glamour than it deserves. The people who do the difficult work are not often recognized. The hoe continues the simile of nature, because he is one with the sword as he is with land. He works hard to support those around him before his self. He is compassionate, and works hard to take care of others. When I look at myself next to him, I feel incomplete. I could never be as strong or powerful as him, lead others like he does, or have his confidence and beauty. Seeing someone perfect makes me feel poorly of myself, but that’s when I came to this realization. I may not ever be the smartest, most artistic, or best of those around me, but it never mattered. I only need to be the best of me. Why do we constantly compare ourselves to those around us? I could have made this skin a robot or a warrior or a superhero, but I didn’t. I made a better version of myself, and why? Because society pressures me constantly to be better. But people are incredibly different, and none of us will ever be the best. I don’t need to be this character I’ve created because it’s impossible to be someone I’m not. The last aspect of this skin I failed to review was the style. It’s not a very well-made skin. In fact, it’s kind of ugly. I look at the hundreds of skins submitted and my creation looks bad. I see the poor colors, the failed attempt at shading, and I feel inadequate. But I shouldn’t, because this style, this ‘ugliness’, while it may not be perfect, I made it. And that’s truly what makes this skin reflective of me. If I try to be perfect I will fail, because reaching for perfection is always impossible. This skin is the best skin I could make, and that’s all I can submit. So, even though it isn’t perfect, it’s me, and that’s all that matters.
