Creds to @DevAngel for the base, which I edited into this Captain America- inspired OC Chapter one: Thursday, August 14, 1941 Peggy watched as Howard's machine began to whir to life before her eyes. Everything was going smoothly, and the room was abuzz with excitement. And then, he came in. Steve Rogers, the man Peggy knew would one day be an American icon. Silence fell over the room, and she looked at him. He was a small man, but he had the largest heart of any man Peggy had ever met. He walked up to her, a determined look set on his face. Steve's soft, blue-gray eyes met her brown ones, and Peggy' s grip on her clipboard tightened. "Hey," he said in his adorably shy way. "Hello Rogers." she said, "Big day today, isn't it? Are you nervous?" With a chuckle, he replied "I'm not sure if I'm nervous, anxious, excited or terrified right now. I trust Howard though, he seems like a swell guy. I'm sure it'll be alright." Just then, Howard walked over, and turned to Peggy. "Carter, I need you to check on the gene fabricator. A malfunction with the machinery could spell disaster for this entire operation." Peggy nodded, and before she knew what was happening Steve had taken her hand and kissed it. She went pink, and smiled at him. Tucking a lock of brown hair behind her ear, she headed down the hall to the room where the fabricator was kept. Once inside, Peggy grabbed a screwdriver and took off the panel covering the inner workings, and moved a few wires away from the control panel. As she was inspecting the controls, a sharp sliver of metal cut her wrist, and a trickle of blood ran over the spot where Steve had kissed her earlier. She cursed, and came out from the machine, deciding it would work fine. When she left the room, she didn't see the series of words that had appeared on a monitor connected to the machine that read Gene samples obtained. Fabrication initiated.
