Slade Wilson was sixteen when he lied about his age, and joined the army. After serving for a short time in Korea, he was assigned to Camp Washington, and promoted to Major. It was there he met Captain Adeline Kane, who was in charge of training promising new recruits, in anticipation of Vietnam. She was immediately taken with Wilson, and saw that he was he most able-bodied soldier she had ever seen. Within six months they were married, and expected a child. It was then when Slade was shipped overseas and set to Vietnam. While there he was recruited into a program that gave him super powers. He became a mercenary after defied orders to save Wintergreen, a soldier who had saved him once before. When he got back, he hid his mercenary ways from his family. When a criminal known as the Jackal, kidnapped his son, and demanded the name of Wilson's employer, he refused, stating that conflicted with his code. He then attempted to save his son, but during the combat, his son's throat was slashed, severing his vocal chords, and rendering him mute. His wife then attempted to kill Slade, but only managed to blind him in his right eye. After this he was so confident in his skills he made sure people knew about his visual impairment, by making a mask which covered his bad eye. He then took the name Deathstroke the Terminator.
