鏡音リン情報 : ヤマハの開発した音声合成エンジン「VOCALOID2」を採用し、音階と歌詞を入力することで音声ライブラリに収録された音声からボーカルパートやバックコーラスを合成できる。鏡音リン・レンでは女声のリンと男声のレン、2つのライブラリを収録しており声優・下田麻美が一人二役で担当している。声質は初音ミクの声と被らないよう「張りのある声」、「力強い声」を志向し開発された[2]。得意な曲のテンポや音域については後述のプロフィールを参照。なお、これらの特性はあくまで目安であり実際は非常に広い範囲で歌えるとされている[3]。 同ソフトでは2008年7月に「act2」と銘打ったライブラリアップデートが行われている。旧バージョン（act1）は扱いが難しく、普通に歌わせるだけでもテクニックを必要とする部分があったとされる[4]。act2では音のつなぎ目部分を滑らかにしノイズ成分を低減、旧バージョンよりも簡単・的確に歌わせることができるようチューニングされた[5]。一部に再録音した音声データも使用された[4]。既存のユーザーについては、2008年9月20日までに旧バージョンのライセンス登録を行っていた場合には無償でアップデータ・ディスクの配布が行われた。旧バージョンからのアップデートでは新しくライブラリが1つずつ追加される形となり新旧のライブラリは共存できるため、新旧合わせて計4つのライブラリの使用が可能となった。なお、2008年7月18日のact2リリース以降の商品はact2のライブラリのみの収録となっている[4]。 2010年12月27日にはリン、レン毎に3つ、計6つの表情付けの異なる追加のライブラリを収録した『鏡音リン・レン・アペンド』が発売された[6]。アペンドでは従来の元気な声に対し「陰影のつくような感情を感じる声」が志向されているという[7]。なお『鏡音リン・レン・アペンド』を使用するには『鏡音リン・レン act2』がインストールされている必要があり、アペンドのみでは使用できない[6]。追加ライブラリの内、リンとレンそれぞれに追加された「POWER」については、安定性重視のact2で失われたact1の特性が再現されたライブラリとなっている[8]。2015年12月24日には英語版のVOCALOID4対応ライブラリを収録した「鏡音リン・レン V4 ENGLISH」と日本語6種類のVOCALOID4対応ライブラリを収録した「鏡音リン・レン V4X」、それに「鏡音リン・レン V4 ENGLISH」をバンドルした「鏡音リン・レン V4X バンドル」が発売された。 Kagamine Rin Information: By adopting Yamaha's speech synthesis engine "VOCALOID 2", by inputting the scale and lyrics, it is possible to synthesize a vocal part or a back chorus from the sound recorded in the sound library. For "POWER" added to each of Phosphorus and Len, among additional libraries, it is a library that reproduces the characteristics of act 1 lost by act 2, which emphasizes stability [8].
