This here is a Scottish Maon (Scottish free soldier) his outfit inspired from a documentary of Robert Bruce high king of Scotland.Fighting for the freedom of Scotland this footman probably came from the poorer end of society , but he pledges his loyalty to the king of a righteous cause and so would die a free man, both respected and valued.He has been given good equipment and quickly trained to have met the high kings demand for the war against England.By the time this man would die he would have been a seasoned veteran soldier who would have been apart of many triumphs and more than a few military disasters as the war across Scotland and Ireland had many wavering outcomes, if men didn't die by the blade they died because of the rain or starvation and blight.Equipment: well equipped he wears a brigandine sweater covered by his kings tabard, his feet are good leather boots with buckles and his hands wear heavy leather gloves to protect them when fencing, his head is crowned with a flat steel helmet with chainmail covering his neck and the back of his head. Weapons: he would probably have to provide his own so they would likely be a variety of things from clubs, flails, short swords and hand axes. Often they would be trained to form pike formations when demanded, if they were really lucky they would be provided with a shield as well."For lord and land, For freedom and respect, For Scotland" = because Haggises are hard to come by. :P
