Senator Bernard "Bernie" Sanders is a political figure who currently represents a large amount of the country's democratic and independent voters. Mostly millennials and people of youth, just before the 2015 election candidate announcement spree, he was virtually unknown to all except political junkies. His job for the past 16 years has had him the longest-serving independent member of Congress, and although he ran in the Democratic party, he has never sworn the party allegiance or loyalty, best known as an independent. Bernard has been the Senator for Vermont since 2007, ruling over the small north-eastern state with an assumed population of negative ten people or less. All jokes aside, this man's entire political career has lasted a long time, and he has been a ghost in the eyes of the scene in America. Why is that, one would ask? Because he classifies himself with a political label, that of a socialist democrat. Due to the war of ideology against Communism, average day Americans have been raised to despise and fear anything relating to it, and have never drawn the line between what is Socialism and what is Communism. This has made the word "Socialism" an insult for generations, despite the fact that in many cases citizens in the USA often identify better with socialist policies without even knowing it. When Bernie Sanders, a Senator from a relatively unimportant and small state, who has been a practical ghost from the majority, announced that he would run for the Presidency in 2016, not many people noticed. Naturally, he had a hard time early on, until his speeches hit the web, and desperate liberals and progressives alike were looking for alternatives to Bush and Clinton, the predicted winners, and power-houses from day one. Finding that Bernie had supported far-off ideas like taxing the 1% richest in America which he claimed "has and makes more money than the 90%" to gain funds that would be put into free college education, single-payer universal healthcare, and other progressive ideas. "We are the only major country on earth that doesn't guarantee health care to all people as a right and yet we end up spending much more than they do, so I do believe that we have to move toward a Medicare for all, single-payer system!" ~ Bernie Sanders. Bernie won many states and votes during the Democratic Primary but did not manage to tip off against the A-list Celebrity and Secretary of State, former First Lady, Hillary Clinton, who had been anticipated as the victor since even before she announced she'd be running. Many liberals and progressives, those who followed Sanders willingly, were pushed towards her when Senator Sanders had conceded from his competition and endorsed her, only to defeat the surprising wild-card Republican Nominee Donald J. Trump. Many progressives would begrudgingly support Clinton, despite them absolutely despising what she stood for, which is corporate established politics and shoving the working class to the side, but were far more afraid of a Trump presidency than the same-old establishment politics. They were, however, terrified of the fact that Sanders won so many votes against her as a populist, working for the majority. Many knew Clinton was no populist, but Trump also acted as a populist for the conservatives, and now had an entire Republican party backing him. Said progressives, including Senator Bernie Sanders, rallied and spoke time and time again along central states and the rust belt, in fear that Clinton might lose the working class entirely to Donald J. Trump after Sanders exposed how crooked she was in their competition. The Clinton campaign had ignored Progressives and their fears, only to find come election night Donald J. Trump won the entirety of the rust belt and many other historical democratic firewall states that Clinton had expected to come to her. Sanders has since been seen speaking of progressive ideals and supporting true leftists for DNC positions, so as to rebuild the crumbling Democratic party which is in rapid decay since their loss to the candidate with the highest unfavorability rating in history. On November 8th, 2016, many USA citizens learned the hard truth; that the establishment is never looking out for their future, but rather it's own greed. This fact has become widespread accepted with both Sanders, who is now seen as the option that should've been picked, was anti-establishment, and the winning candidate Donald J. Trump also held the claim to anti-establishment. only people with some time on their hands or that are really interested in political phenomenon will read that. but it was fun to write anyhow.
